APRIL: A Reflection

Explore our monthly newsletter featuring events, lessons and accomplishments through our program. Each month has a new focus and each article will showcase our mentees’ progress.

APRIL was a month of self-discovery, collaboration and growth.

This month, our cohort took their Clifton Strengths Assessments and explored what it truly means to understand how we work: not just individually, but together. We reflected on the environments where we thrive, how to apply our strengths in both our personal and professional lives and how our differences can become our greatest advantage.

Through intentional group work, we began to see how our strengths complement one another.

STRENGTHS IN ACTION

With guidance from strengths coach Sulina Mohanty, our cohort was divided into four groups based on complementary strengths:

Deep Connectors:

Individuals who lead with authenticity and build meaningful, genuine relationships

Socializers:

Those who foster inclusion, empathy and connection in every space they enter

These groupings gave us the opportunity to not only understand ourselves more deeply, but to actively practice collaboration. Mentees learned how to communicate, lead and build alongside people who think differently.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

This month, we also had the opportunity to engage with the broader community through events led by Ting’s former mentees.

We attended Millennial RI, created by Travis Escobar, an initiative focused on encouraging people to live, work and build their futures in Rhode Island. Through networking and shared ideas, the event highlighted the power of community in shaping opportunity.

We also joined Women in Bloom, hosted by Margaret Brassard of RI Acts of Kindness, where Ting served as a panelist. The event created a space for women to show up fully, connect and grow together. Local women-owned businesses and pop-ups were featured

Bringing It Full Circle

To close out the month, we welcomed strategic planning coach, Jennie Silbert, who guided us through a powerful session on humility, discipline, and staying grounded in our values.

As a cohort, we shared openly, reflecting on our strengths, areas for growth and the results we hope to achieve. These conversations were not always easy, but they were necessary.

Because understanding your strengths is only the beginning; learning how to apply them with intention and consistency is what creates real change.

Looking Ahead: What’s in store for the month of May?

April laid the foundation; in May, we build on it

As we move forward, our focus shifts toward discipline and commitment. Our goal is to learn how to stay consistent, take action and turn our aspirations into tangible results using the strengths we’ve discovered.
